INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS
Coaches and athletes work together to make all levels of sports at University High School fun and educational. UHS offers a full interscholastic sports program and has demonstrated a remarkable level of sustained athletic success in each of the three areas of athletic department focus: participation, achievement, and honor. The school fields 32 teams in 14 sports: girls’ and boys’ teams in nine sports (basketball, cross country, fencing, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, and badminton); girls’ teams in field hockey, softball, and volleyball; boys’ teams in baseball and golf. Most teams compete at the varsity and junior varsity levels in the Bay Counties League against teams from independent and public schools.
With over 70% of the students participating in at least one interscholastic sport each year, UHS students find fun, competition, and friendships on our teams. Over the last five years, Red Devil teams have won over 40% of the league titles for which they competed. UHS has been recognized by CalHi Sports for having the premier Division V athletic program in California five times in the last twelve years. In addition to our excellent record in competition, we are proud of the exemplary sportsmanship exhibited by our students every year.
